Summary: Alternative Universe. Steve was with his mother when she had the 'accident' and it left him damaged. Thanks to the character traits that make him a 'freaking ninja' in canon, in the eighteen years that passed since the injury he managed to overcome most of his handicaps. The unfulfilled dreams and unrealized ambitions remain though.
Then his father gets killed and, in search for the murderer, Steve will find what he never expected to -- a challenge, new possibilities and ... an unlikely friend.

Epilogue -- Just when you thought it was all gonna end well -- Steve gets a surprise visitor.

Ch 16 (the chapter was posted on AO3 a few weeks ago) -- Things aren’t always the way you expect them to be and since Steve can’t keep chasing his father’s killer, at least for now, he agrees to do that every-day job Danny was talking about. He hopes that something more interesting will come up. He has his wish granted and then some when Kono gets in trouble.
Ch 17 -- Five-0 saves Kono. What did you expect? And then they live happily ever after............

Mock-Warning: This story has now become GEN (or even HET-ish at times), despite it wanting to become maybe-pre-SLASH several chapters ago. Steve and Danny are still friends of course, and that’s the most important relationship in the story, but if all you’re in for is Steve/Danno romance -- this is not it.

Ch 15 -- Steve realizes what a big game he’s gotten himself into. He won’t back down, but he begins to understand that it may take more than courage and determination to catch the man who killed his father. Fortunately he’s got more friends than he counts on.
